Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to and use of this website. Reading a page, using a search feature, or otherwise continuing on the site signifies agreement. Anyone who does not accept the terms should discontinue use.

NO FCRA USE. This privately owned site has no government affiliation. Neither the site nor its advertising partners offers a service intended for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions, or another purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The site directs readers to criminal-record resources serving DeKalb County, Illinois. It is neither a private investigation firm nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This private reference site is independent of every public office. It does not keep official records, conduct official checks, retrieve a file, or submit paperwork for a user.

Its content identifies the DeKalb County Sheriff's Records Division, the DeKalb County Circuit Clerk, Illinois State Police, Bureau of Identification, and the Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry, along with outside tools that may assist research. Illinois FOIA, 5 ILCS 140, UCIA, 20 ILCS 2635, and the Criminal Identification Act, 20 ILCS 2630, govern official records and dissemination where applicable, not this site's reference copy.

2. Rules for Using This Site

You agree that you will not:

  • Break any federal, state, or local law while using this site
  • Use information you find here to stalk, harass, or threaten anyone
  • Base hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions on content from this site
  • Try to break into our systems or gain access you are not supposed to have
  • Run bots, scrapers, or automated tools against our pages
  • Do anything that slows the site down or blocks other people from using it

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information obtained here or through a linked tool may not be used to stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or unlawfully discriminate against anyone. That prohibition is especially important for Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry information. Registry data is published for public safety awareness, not personal confrontation, vigilante conduct, employment blacklisting, or housing discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. We do not generate background checks, credit reports, or consumer reports of any kind. Neither we nor our advertising partners provide services built for screening job applicants, reviewing rental applications, calculating insurance rates, or judging creditworthiness. You agree not to use data from this site or any linked tool to:

  • Decide whether to hire or fire someone
  • Screen potential renters or housing applicants
  • Judge creditworthiness or set insurance premiums
  • Determine who qualifies for licenses, permits, or government programs
  • Do anything else that falls under FCRA rules

A check needed for a regulated purpose must come through an appropriate official channel or a screening company that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is general information, not legal advice. Questions about how an Illinois charge, conviction, warrant, expungement, or sealing rule applies to a particular situation should go to a licensed Illinois attorney.

6. No Warranties

Everything on this site is provided "as is." We do not guarantee that:

  • The information here is accurate, complete, or current at any given time
  • The site will stay up and running without interruptions
  • Our pages are free of errors, bugs, or security holes
  • Results from our partner search tools will be thorough or accurate

Charges, dispositions, sealing orders, and expungement orders can change the official record. Site information can therefore contain gaps or become stale and must not be treated as a statement by a court, sheriff, or government agency.

Links lead to government agencies, court systems, legal-aid organizations, and outside services that this site does not operate. We accept no responsibility for a destination's content, data handling, charges, or availability. Review its terms before use.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code are owned by DeKalb County Criminal History or its content partners. They may not be copied, modified, distributed, or adapted without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim liability for damages arising from site use, including reliance on material found here or through a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims or demands arising from your site use or violation of these terms, including related legal fees and costs.
